It used to be the website for my web design business.
In July 2008, I renamed my website design and development services to Foxglove Website Designs. Dirt Cheap Web Designs is now transforming into a collection of articles, listings, links, and other resources to help you build a great website for, well, dirt cheap!
In 2003, I started Dirt Cheap Web Designs to offer affordable services for small business owners who wanted to establish a presence on the internet without forking over a lot of dough. My first client was my husband, Jeff, owner of Tone Deaf Mobile D.J. & Karaoke. Like many small business owners, he felt that having a website was both unnecessary and financially out of reach. I aimed to prove otherwise and succeeded. Jeff now books the majority of his DJ shows online.
That was the start of Dirt Cheap Web Designs, and after several rewarding years of designing websites, I started receiving a LOT of requests like "I want a website like eBay but my budget is only $500." These were people who just wanted to make their dreams come true but had no idea what they were asking for. Although I was always polite and professional, what I really wanted to say was, "Sure, just add six zeroes to your budget and we can get started."
At that point I knew my business had outgrown its name, and the search for a new marketing spiel began. It took more than a year to redefine my business. Finally, in July 2008, "Dirt Cheap Web Designs" officially became "Foxglove Website Designs".
That could have been the end of Dirt Cheap Web Designs, but over the following months I realized I was getting a lof of great traffic from the search engines for terms like "cheap web designs" and "cheap website designs". Yet I wasn't utilizing this traffic at all... in fact, I had only placed a simple note on the Home page saying this:
